You know how the cases of rape and assault of young girls and women have been on the rise lately and all we have been doing is ‘ehyah’ and getting angry? Well, some forward-thinking oyinbos have decided to find a solution to and it is called Athena.

Athena is a new simple device shaped like a pendant with a button that when pressed, it would emit a loud alarm and automatically send alerts in the form of text messages to loved ones with the wearer’s location. According to the inventors, it is designed to protect women from physical assaults and act as a detterent to offenders.

This technology can go beyond its intended purpose and be used in other dangerous circumstances such as anti-kidnapping, anti-theft/robbery, etc. It is surely a welcome development.
