Impeachment threat stalls schools’ resumption in Ekiti

The alarm raised by Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, that the 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers planned to invade the Assembly stalled the resumption of public and private institutions operating in the state yesterday.

Fayose, had in a statewide broadcast on Sunday alleged that the Adewale Omirin-led lawmakers were planning to storm the Assembly to commence his impeachment process. The governor, therefore called on the people to mobilize and defend the mandate freely given to him.
Public and private schools in the state were due for resumption yesterday, but that did not happen apparently because of the governor’s broadcast
When Daily Sun visited the state secretariat in Ado Ekiti, it observed that few workers reported to their duty posts. The Assembly complex was under lock, while policemen blocked all major roads leading to the complex, as few vehicles that were allowed passage were thoroughly checked and passers-by frisked by security agencies.
Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), allegedly mobilized by caretaker chairmen in the 16 local government areas of the state, it was also observed laid siege to the Assembly.
The party members were seen at strategic points in the complex apparently to frustrate the impeachment plot against the governor.
