A suicide bomber yesterday hit a motor park in restive Biu town, south Borno, killing 19 people, residents and hospital sources said.
The attacker was said to have attempted to enter Tarsan Gandu (Motor Park) at Biu at about 2:50pm yesterday but was stopped by some youth vigilante popularly called Civilian JTF, for the stop and search exercise.
“The next thing we heard was a loud sound from the check-point, flame billowing and then charred bodies,” Abdullahi Muhammad, a resident toldDaily Sun on phone. He said 13 dead bodies were evacuated from the scene shortly after the blast while six more bodies were discovered near the scene.
Some residents said a young man in a tricycle heading somewhere, suddenly disembarked after he  discovered a check-point mounted near the Tarsan Gandu (motorpark) and thereafter detonated the explosive devices, killing 19 people.
Another suspected bomber near the scene of the blast was also arrested while attempting to detonate a second bomb, targeting rescuers, a resident also claimed though Daily Sun could not authenticate the claim at press time.
In Jos, twin bombs rocked the tin city as the attackers detonated explosives at the entrance of the Bauchi motorpark and at another park in front of old campus of University of Jos, all along Bauchi Road.
The explosives went off just about 6 45pm when many of the shop owners were closing for the day and while some passengers were disembarking from commercial vehicles.
Daily Sun gathered that nine people died in the two incidents
Meanwhile, as the military continues its onslaught against insurgents in the North-East, the Nigerian National Summit Group (NNSG) has commended the military for success recorded lately.
In a statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Mr Tony Uranta, the group expressed joy that the military is doing so much to guarantee security for the general elections billed to commence on March 28.  The elections originally scheduled to begin on February 28 were rescheduled because of the security challenges in the North-East and non-issuance of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to majority of registered voters.
However , the NNSG said it is unfortunate that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  is still unable to issue the Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to all eligible for voters.
Consequently, the group admonished the electoral body to allow the use of Temporary Voters Card (TVCs)  alongside the PVCs in the elections, noting that this will make it possible for more eligible voters to participate in the polls
