OVER 60 houses were feared burnt as a fuel-laden tanker fell at Inalende
junction, Omitowoju, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday evening.
The incident, an eyewitness informed the Nigerian Tribune, happened around 6.30 p.m, when the tanker, with Lagos registration number XJ 288 SMK, fell off as it was trying to manoeuvre its way at the junction.
It was gathered that after attempts by the driver to maintain the balance failed, the vehicle fell, thereby spilling its content down the road before it exploded.
The raging inferno, the eyewitness said, affected many houses and shops on the street.
As of the time of going to press, the fire was still raging, while unconfirmed report had it that some people were trapped in some of the houses and shops already razed by the fire.
Nigerian Tribune also gathered that residents and traders had fled the area, as a result of the development, to avoid being trapped in the raging inferno.
Some of those who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune lamented their losses to the fire, while others were searching for their loved ones.
At press time, fire fighter service operators had arrived the scene of the incident and were making effort to put out the fire.
